About Us
Barry Coastguard is a Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) with 11 Coastguard Rescue Officers (CRO's), who are all volunteers, coming from a variety of backgrounds, and are on standby to respond to any coastal emergency. We are equipped to carry out coastal searches, cliff rescues, mud rescues and coordination of incidents.

Barry Coastguard's patch stretches from Hayes Slipway, Sully to Aberthaw Power Station and Leys Beach.  The area includes several tourist/leisure beaches, an international airport, yacht clubs and a working port.

Her Majesty's Coastguard is responsible for the initiation and co-ordination of civil maritime search and rescue with in the United Kingdom Search and Rescue Region. This includes mobilization, organisation and tasking of adequate resources to respond to persons in distress at sea, or to persons at risk of injury or death on the cliffs or shoreline of the United Kingdom.
Formerly known as the Auxiliary Coastguard Service when it worked in support of full time Coastguard Officers, the Coastguard Rescue Service is now an established front line UK emergency response service capable of undertaking cliff and mud rescues, coastal and inland searches, coastal and inshore surveillance tasks from well equipped response vehicles plus a range of other maritime safety tasks.
As part of Her Majesty's Coastguard which is the emergency response arm of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Coastguard Rescue Service has a long and proud history stretching back to the 19th Century with a great tradition of lifesaving. That lifesaving role continues but it is a very different rescue service today where the latest equipment, technology and techniques are used and updated as improvements are introduced through experience and research.

Our Vision is to be a world-class organisation that is committed to preventing loss of life, continuously improving maritime safety, and protecting the marine environment.
